STAFF:
Mr D

Mrs I

are a well-equipped unit housed in a suite of large
specialist studios.
-
We
offer a wide range of specialisms and opportunities
for our students which include: drawing, painting,
ceramics, screen-printing, batik, sculpture and silk
painting.
-
The
Department has its own networked PC with scanner and
colour printer.
AIMS
-
To
treat all pupils as individuals: encourage and
respect the individual ideas and responses of all
pupils.
-
To
develop and encourage the pupils' critical faculties
and technical skills to a point where the individual
can work with confidence and independence.
-
To
stimulate an interest in, and enjoyment of, Art and
Design for its own sake, to seek pleasure in the
expression of creative ideas.
-
To
encourage all pupils to take pride in their work and
to strive for the highest academic and personal
standards.
KEY STAGE THREE - YEARS 7, 8 AND 9
Throughout Key Stage 3, pupils are offered a range of
artistic experiences and practical activities from the
following areas; drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture
and batik. Pupils will look at a range of artists,
craft persons
and designers to underpin their studies as well as use a
sketchbook to support classroom work and independent
study.
Much
emphasis is placed on pupils showing initiative and a
willingness to develop and extend ideas in an
imaginative way taking, responsibility for their own
learning.
KEY STAGE FOUR - YEARS 10 AND 11
In Years
10 and 11 pupils follow the OCR unendorsed GCSE
Examination course in Art and Design; a course which
encourages breadth and depth in more than one area of
study. The syllabus facilitates opportunities for
active learning where pupils can negotiate their own
syllabus content and work to their strengths and
personal interests continuing from the basis established
in Years 7, 8 and 9.
Assessment Objectives Required at KS4 that Pupils need
to Demonstrate in their Work
-
The
ability to collect record and develop their own
ideas.
-
The
ability to explore materials and techniques, review,
modify ideas and produce a final piece of their own
work.
-
Study the work of chosen Artists, Designers, and
Craftspeople and make a personal critical response
making informed connections between their own work
and the working methods of relevant artists.
